Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if my stone has already been sealed?

Apply a drop of water at least ½ -inch in diameter to the top of the stone and let stand for at least 15 minutes. Cover with a glass to inhibit evaporation. If stone did NOT darken then your stone is probably sealed against water based stains. Testing for oil repellency is not as simple because if your stone is not sealed, you will have an oil stain.

How much time between coats of sealer?

Always follow your label directions. Most sealers require waiting only one hour between coats. A little extra time will produce optimal results.

How often do I need to seal my stone?

If you seal your stone with Bello-Seal® and maintained it with Bello-Clean&Protect® your sealer should last up to 3-5 years. Proper ongoing maintenance greatly affects sealer durability.

Is one coat of sealer enough for my natural stone?

When sealing a very dense stone, one coat will be sufficient. Most stone and grout will require two coats. A few of the more absorbent stones may need additional coats to be properly sealed.

What is a sealer?

A sealer is like a coat of armor for your stone, tile or grout. Our sealer will decrease the opportunity that anything can stain or harm your surface. We believe that you should always use an impregnating sealer allowing your stone to retain its natural beauty while allowing your natural stone the ability to breath.

What is an impregnating sealer?

Your natural stone has peeks and valyies under a microscope. An impregnating sealer penetrates the valleys and peaks while still allowing your stone the ability to breath. Bello Stone Care promotes the use of impregnating sealers allowing your stone to retain its natural beauty.

Why does my granite stain?

Granite is like any other natural stone; it can be dense of pourus and is absorbent to some degree. Stones that have more swirls or veins tend to be more porous and absorbent. These swirls and veins show movement of the stone active molten history. Generally, stone with smaller crystals are more absorbent than granites that have large crystals.

Why should I seal my natural stone?

Procted stone will be easier to clean, resist staining, and provide a safer and healthier environment. Considering the investment, why wouldn’t you provide the surface with the maximum protection?

Will my natural stone look glossy after sealing or enhancing?

No, if properly applied our impregnating sealers will leave your surface looking natural. Enhancing sealers are specifically formulated to darken that stone while retaining the original polish, matte or honed look.

How do I keep my stone clean?

We recommend using a cleaner specially formulated for natural stone. “All Purpose” or “General Cleaner” products can damage natural stone and or the sealer applied, so don’t just pick anything off the shelf at the grocery store. Improperly formulated cleaners or those with acid (such as porcelain or ceramic tile cleaners) may etch the surface of the stone. Make sure that you select a cleaner specially formulated for NATURAL STONE.
